 "Submission--Properly Understood, Properly Applied" (Sound, Balanced, Biblical Guidance For An Often-Misunderstood Concept)

"Perhaps no Bible word has been more misunderstood than the term “submission” or “submissive.” A sound understanding and application of “submission” is vital to properly respond to any  “abuse” (“having been sinned against”) or suffering that you might be facing.  We will show you the biblical way to address this very painful reality of life.

For wives, the word "submission" may cause “agitation of the soul”, especially in a society where independence, assertiveness, and self-centeredness are glorified.  Many a husband, when angry, troubled, or having “gotten caught” has used the “s” word to put his wife in her place!

Is “submission” really the wife’s undue burden or the husband’s hammer? You may be surprised—even set free—when you come to understand and apply the truth about submission!

We have worked with hundreds and hundreds of couples and families in over twenty years of ministry. In church, in classroom teaching, in counseling situations, in seminars and conferences, or “just visiting” with folks at our homestead we have, with very few exceptions, found that the issue of proper Biblical submission, especially in the marriage relationship, is one of those uncomfortable, controversial topics.

The vast majority of husbands and wives have either a, 1) specifically wrong understanding, 2) a hazy confusion, or 3) a total ignorance of both the concept and practical application of “submission”. Yet, Jesus Himself ties this very quality to a man or a woman's genuine faith!

This confusion exists despite the overwhelming number of books, tapes, and videos “out there”, and the numerous sermons from     1 Peter 3: 1-7 as the text. In our own personal experience we have never heard a “submission sermon” which teaches the straightforward, exampled, Biblical way of submission.

When we teach or counsel on this topic the inevitable response is, “Why have I not learned this before?” ..."
